Judging a Book By Its Cover

I’ve been quiet – and that is really not like me. At all. I realized today that it has been a month since I posted a blog, that’s just much too long. It is not that I haven’t had anything to say, many would say that has never been a problem for me…and I’m going to take that as a compliment thank you very much. Guess I just needed a little break, but breaks over and I’m back!

My newsletter this month will deal with non-verbal communication and will be coming out tomorrow – as long as it passes the Jackie test. There was another direction that I really wanted to take with it in not judging a book by its cover, but I think that will be a newsletter or article in itself. But the idea hit me when I was listening to some music, more specifically when I heard this verse:

God gave you the shoes that fit you
So put them on and wear them
Be yourself and be proud of who you are
Never let no one tell you you aint beautiful

Nice, huh? I like it, it is uplifting and said pretty well. And what is surprising is it comes from an unexpected source – Beautiful by Eminem. I love all kinds of music – jazz, Motown, rock, alternative, hip hop and even a wee little bit of rap. Wee teeny tiny bit. I do like some of Eminem’s songs; although I am not so crazy about all of his songs but I have a great admiration for his talent and his writing ability. As a mom I just want to ask him, “Do you have to use that language??” – okay, either it is a mom thing or an age thing, but I digress. I think many would look at him and form an immediate opinion, through my son I actually listed to his music and was impressed. So, thank you Jake, for not allowing me to judge that book by its cover.
