Sometimes You Just Need A Reverse List.

Yesterday was Monday and it earned its reputation that Mondays have – it stunk. I was running around all morning, stressed throughout the day and exhausted at night. My last key stroke was near midnight and let me tell you, my pack of dogs were not happy about that at all!

I’m a list person, I love to make and check things off a list. It makes me happy. Sometimes I get so wound up in life or the day that I don’t make a list and then I’m all out of whack. Yes, it is a complicated world I live in – this is nothing new. Wanting to make sure today is not a repeat of yesterday I decided to be retro-pro-active. I just made that up, but I like it.

I made a list of what I accomplished yesterday, kind of like listing your checkmarks while leaving the undone off the list. I wrote it all down, even the steps I took to accomplish some of my feats because I wasnt’ sure I would be able to accomplish everything. I made my list. Better yet, everything was an accomplishment and I must say in looking at it, I did good!

Sometimes I think we get so wound up in what we are not getting done that we forget to give ourselves a little pat on the back for what we did get done. So, I started my day with a pat on the back. It became even better when I said, out loud, “Alright – I did get a lot done!” and immediately I had two dogs on either side of me and they rested their heads on my lap. They gave me encouragement too. Ok, they also wanted a treat, but I’m going to stick to the encouragement angle.

We are all in such a hurry to accomplish something. Sometimes I think we forget what we set out to do and I know we forget to slow down and enjoy the ride. So it is natural to become overwhelmed and feel as though we are not getting there fast enough. Take time to give yourself a pat on the back today. You deserve it!
